Molina, Cardinals hit Dodgers again

Baseball Betting Lines

07/16/2010 - St. Louis, MO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Yadier Molina belted a two-run homer and drove in four runs as St. Louis again used an offensive display to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, this time by an 8-4 count at Busch Stadium.

Tyler Greene and Matt Holliday each had two hits and a run scored for the Cardinals, who won 7-1 in the opener of this four-game series Thursday night. St. Louis has a 19-4 home mark in the last 23 regular season games against the Dodgers.

Randy Winn added a pair of hits, including a two-run triple, in St. Louis' third consecutive victory.

Jaime Garcia started for the Cardinals, but left after allowing eight hits and two runs in 3 1/3 innings. Kyle McClellan (1-2) allowed one hit over 1 2/3 innings to get the victory.

Chad Billingsley (7-5) was charged with 10 hits and seven runs over four-plus innings.

James Loney had three hits and an RBI for the Dodgers, who lost left fielder Manny Ramirez in the first inning due to right calf tightness. He's considered day-to-day.

Ramirez was replaced in left field by Xavier Paul in the bottom of the first inning. Just one day after being activated from the disabled list, Ramirez walked in the first inning, but never came out to play the field.

It was during that opening inning the Cardinals grabbed a 3-0 lead. Colby Rasmus singled with one out and Holliday walked with two down. Winn followed with a triple to the right field corner and he scored on Molina's base hit to right.

Felipe Lopez singled in Skip Schumaker in the second before the Dodgers cracked the scoreboard in the next frame thanks to RBI base hits from Casey Blake and Loney.

St. Louis loaded the bases with nobody out in its half of the third after singles from Albert Pujols, Holliday and Winn, but only one run came home - on Molina's grounder that ended up being a force out at third.

Andre Ethier struck out swinging to end the top of the fourth, leaving two runners on base. The Cardinals made it 6-2 in their half after Greene scored on Rasmus' double-play grounder.

Holliday walked leading off the fifth, and one out later Molina homered to left off George Sherrill.

The Dodgers made one final push at a comeback, loading the bases with one out in the eighth. Jason Motte walked Rafael Furcal to force in a run and Matt Kemp followed with a sacrifice fly. Dennys Reyes was summoned from the bullpen, but uncorked a wild pitch. Ethier, though, grounded out to first to end the frame.

Game Notes

The all-time series is amazingly tight with the Dodgers holding a 998-996-16 win/loss/tie record against the Cardinals...Since Busch Stadium III opened, the Cardinals have a 12-1 mark in home games in the series following the All- Star break.
