06/23/2010 - Las Vegas, NV (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Washington Capitals goaltender Jose Theodore took home the 2009-10 Bill Masterton Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.

Theodore finished last season with a 30-7-7 record, 2.81 goals-against average and one shutout in 47 games -- less than a year after tragically losing his son Chase to complications following a premature birth.

He became the first player in Capitals franchise history to be so honored.

Kurtis Foster, defenseman for the Tampa Bay Lightning and forward Jed Ortmeyer of the San Jose Sharks were the other two finalists.

Steve Sullivan of the Nashville Predators won the award in 2009, gaining recognition since he returned to hockey following a two-plus season absence following spinal surgery.
